Of Sand, Sorrow and Strength
Introducing Cambrien, an intrepid male Midlander with a desire to protect those that need his help. Cam has always had a drive to aid others, stemming from a tough childhood where many of his friends and family grew up poor. Family was the most important thing to him growing up in the sandworn streets of Ul’dah. It was there he grew up strong and tough, doing what he had to do to make sure that his family got what they needed. A stout sword arm got him far and soon, he was fighting in the pits for gil and glory.It wasn’t long after he began his gladiatorial debut that he was given the chance to join the Abby in Ishgard and take the oath as a Paladin. Years he spent as a brother of the Abby, reveling in the skills gained and the ability to help protect the world he loved.The Beauty of Life and the Destiny of Death
On a mission where he was sent alone to help protect a caravan marching into the frigid north of Coerthas, Cambrien and those in his charge were beset by a pack of bandits. A bloody battle ensued, leaving only the Paladin left standing. A broken man called out to Halone for guidance but was met by a new voice.An otherworldly entity calling itself The Balance, reached out to Cam asking if he was ready to do what it took to protect Eorzea. The Balance told of him of the Soul Engine and how life and death fed this cycle, allowing death to blossom more life. Should Cambrien be willing, The Balance would be willing to guide him as a champion of the cycle, learning how to protect life at all costs, but destroy those that might stand in his way or would threaten those he could protect. Wanting to do what he could to aid the world, he agreed and a Patronage with the Balance was struck. Under his tutelage, Cambrien does what he can to protect the lives of any he can, allowing them to live richer, more impassioned lives so that their souls feed the cycle in more magnificent ways.The Stories that Shape Us
While being a sellsword and working for the Abby has it’s benefits, it rarely pays the bills (or afford the lavish clothing that often adorn the man’s frame). So, falling back on his first love, the written word, Cambrien works as a freelance journalist for the Limsa Paper to make ends meet. Within this love, Cambrien began a collection of stories from those he has met and interviewed, sparking a passion project where he hopes to bring people together through shared experiences. The project is called The Heart of Hydaelyn, and is a wonderful collection of stories gathered from people around the world. Through this project he hopes more people take witness to the truth that all creatures are similar, from the commoner to the king and we all share the same feelings of love and loss, heartache and hatred, pain and pleasure. Cambrien's closest friend Daravon passed many years ago and on his death bed, Cam was asked to look out for Daravon's daughter, Aevistana. From that point on Cambrien took the young girl under his wing and watched over her when he could. Both don't have family, so the pair has formed a strong familial connection which grew stronger over the years, culminating in the Paladin adopting the young woman.
